The Oddities of Nature

Nature is full of surprises and oddities, ranging from the landscape of bubbling, strange animals, plants and any other feature of nature, including the human being some of which that seems to be too strange to exist; however, there are real, and they exist in nature. Another oddity of nature is the harmless caterpillar that mimics dangerous snake heads in a bid to fool the predators. After growing to some inches, they migrate to the oceans where they adapt to the chemical environment of the salt water, where they spend yet another one year. In the process of their growth, they migrate for thousands of miles as they search for food. At the last phase of their life, they migrate from the ocean to the upriver and up streams where they started their life. They eventually die with their decaying bodies releasing nutrients to the newly laid eggs (Behme, P. 29). The produced eggs are then hatched to start a new life that follows the same unusual cycle.

Energy and Physics

My favorite academic subject is physics.  I took an interest in the subject at a young age and was fascinated to understand the texts and diagrams I saw in my elder brother’s physics textbook. When in high school physics was one of my favorite subjects, hence I placed extra efforts into my physics classes and the more I understood it, the more my determination and curiosity of being more knowledgeable of the subject grew. Because of my interest in physics, I, therefore, choose to be an electrical engineer. Industrialization is still on the rise today and electricity is still required to light up dwellings, offices, shops or outdoor lighting for security purposes (Abu-Rub et al, 26-47). The fact that work has been made easier for man by the use of machines is undisputed since these electric-powered devices have taken care of heavy physical labor, especially in the construction sector. Transportation machines like trains also use electricity to hoist gears and lifts use electro motors to carry out their intended tasks. This has also posed an advantage over the previous internal combustion engines. Air-conditioning systems, food storage devices, television and broadcasting and communication systems just to name a few are among the vast sectors that have seen the importance of electrical energy.  I firmly believe that the field of electrical engineering is growing vastly as seen by the new technology that is mushrooming frequently and is full of opportunities that would make our lifestyles comfortable.

The Scientific Method

The scientific method refers to a process through which models are created and verified through an experiment. It involves the formulation of the hypothesis, making observations, development of models to serve as tools of communication. Further, the scientific method will employ and utilize inductive and deductive reasoning in an attempt to produce useful and reliable models of nature and natural phenomena (Kosso, 2011).

Distinction between Observation, Hypothesis, Experiment, and Model

A hypothesis is used to define a presupposed untested conclusion of a phenomena or concept subject to further analysis and testing that would either support it or prove otherwise. It is a foundation for research. Using the scenario a hypothesis is saying that the potted plants can be comfortably grown together.

An observation meanwhile refers to a noted occurrence in an experiment or subject matter of interest. Observed characteristics of bulbs may include their short stems and fleshy leaves. An experiment is an actual test that is conducted or run with the intention of making an observation that would then be used to confirm or disapprove a given hypothesis that has been proposed.  Given the assumption, an experiment would be conducted where an attempt to cultivate the bulbs and the potted plant can be made using one container (Carmichael, 2013).

A model refers in this context to a method of representing a scientific idea, object or phenomenon that may not be possible to be observed or experienced directly. It is a scientific tool of communicating and representation of ideas and concepts. A model, therefore, can be employed to demonstrate the relationship between the plants being grown and how they affect each other.
